2nd UAE Clinical Simulation Conference (CSC) 2015

For the second year in a row, the Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare (CASH) bagged the Best Poster Presentation award at the “2nd UAE Clinical Simulation Conference (CSC), 2015” held in Dubai Health Care City, Dubai at the Mohammad Bin Rashid Academic Medical Center in February 2015 in collaboration with 1st SESAM (Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine) MENA Conference. The theme of the conference was ‘’Simulation: The Heart of Patient Safety”. The conference brought together internationally renowned keynote speakers, local experts and educators in simulation based trainings.

Dr. Erum Khan, Simulation Instructor and Life Support Trainer at CASH, GMU presented a poster on “Cognitive Overload Management: Empowering Simulation Based Medical Education through mindful reality checks.” as the primary author; the study was co-authored by Professor Manda Venkatramana Director, CASH and Dean, College of Medicine, GMU. The presentation was judged by SESAM and DHCC subject experts. The poster highlighted the importance of designing cognitive friendly simulation based experiences through mindful reality checks on the limitations of the learners cognitive ability in the light of current literature, experience and evidence gathered at CASH. The presentation concluded by discussion about the future implications and recommendations with the audience and panel of judges.

Clinical Simulation Conference Dr. Erum Khan proudly received the award during the Closing Ceremony of the Conference from Dr. Ralf Krage, President of Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine (SESAM) and Dr. Amer Ahmad Sharif, Managing Director, Education Division, DHCC.  The poster received critical acclaim and appreciation from the International Panel of Judges and the Keynote Speakers.

Clinical Simulation Conference The Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare situated within the Gulf Medical University campus at Ajman is a state-of-art facility and a recent value addition to complement the pedagogy of our students designed as a virtual hospital setting. The mission of CASH is to create a safe, controlled and non-threatening environment for health professionals to teach, train and assess the cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills ensuring high quality patient care and safety using various simulation technologies. CASH offers the American Heart Association accredited Basic and Advanced Life Support Courses at regular intervals.
