Thumbay Hospital Ajman Launches ‘Smiles Card’ as Year of Zayed Initiative to Benefit Patients without Insurance

Thumbay Hospital – Ajman, the leading academic hospital under Thumbay Group’s Healthcare Division, launched its own privilege card for patients, the ‘Smiles Card’, on Saturday, 28th April 2018. Introduced as a ‘Year of Zayed’ initiative, the ‘Thumbay Smiles Card’ will entitle card-holders to a host of inpatient and out-patient discounts at Thumbay Hospital- Ajman. The Smiles Card is being launched for the benefit of patients who do not have medical insurance coverage.

Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group said that Smiles cards would be valid throughout the Year of Zayed, until 31st December 2018. “Card-holders can avail discounts on consultations, IP procedures, radiology investigations, dental services/procedures, dietician consultation and ECG, by flashing their Smiles Card at the hospital,” he said, adding, “Thumbay Hospital – Ajman welcomes one and all to avail the ‘Smiles’ benefits.” The discounts will be applicable only to self-paying patients.

Leading pathologists in the UAE were honored and the latest trends in pathology were discussed at the Pathology Society Meeting, a gathering of renowned experts in pathology organized by Thumbay Labs in association with Emirates Medical Association (EMA). The event was held at Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman.

 

Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of Thumbay Group was the chief guest of the presentation ceremony which honored distinguished experts in the field of pathology, for their contributions to the field. The awardees were:

Thumbay Group Issues Alert on Fake Job Offers

UAE-based diversified global conglomerate Thumbay Group has issued an alert on a multinational recruitment scam that offers bogus jobs in the name of Thumbay Hospital, the academic hospital chain operating under the group’s healthcare division.

The group has issued notices on its career portal as well as in leading newspapers, warning unsuspecting jobseekers to be wary of online fraudsters offering jobs on its behalf.

“Thumbay Hospital and other Thumbay Group companies follow a comprehensive recruitment process which includes personal interview, and we do not make employment offers solely on the basis of a candidate’s CV. Moreover, recruitment to any post under the group or group companies is done through our own HR department and is not outsourced to any external agencies or individuals,” clarifies the notice.

The notice also alerts job seekers that Thumbay Group and its group companies do not solicit any payment from candidates at any stage of recruitment process. It adds that all vacancies in Thumbay Group are listed in the company’s career webpage, in addition to being advertised in leading daily newspapers and job portals.

Thumbay Group has filed cases with Dubai Police and with Cyber Cell to take action against online fraudsters who promise jobs with Thumbay Hospital and cheat people of money as recruitment expenses.

With this recognition, Thumbay Hospital Hyderabad has become an Academic Health Center under the Gulf Medical University Academic Health System (GMUAHS)

Thumbay Hospital – Hyderabad, the leading multispecialty hospital under Thumbay Group’s Healthcare Division has been recognized as a teaching hospital by Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, UAE. Following this recognition by GMU, Thumbay Hospital – Hyderabad is now an Academic Health Center under the Gulf Medical University Academic Health System (GMUAHS), the only private academic health system in the Middle East region.

  • Doctors working in Thumbay Hospital Hyderabad will be eligible to get teaching faculty positions and will be designated as adjunct faculty of GMU.
  • GMU will facilitate student and faculty exchange programs with the hospital.

Thumbay Hospital Day Care, University City Road, Muweilah, Sharjah will be conducting a free health camp for expats from African countries on Thursday, 10th May 2018. H.E. Ms. Samata Gifty Bukari,  The Consul General , Consulate of the Republic of Ghana in Dubai , UAE will be the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony. People of all African nationalities can avail free consultations across all the specialties at the hospital from 10 am to 6 pm on 10th May. They can also avail free blood sugar, blood pressure and BMI checkups.

Organized by the College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the symposium was attended by healthcare professionals from across the country

As part of the efforts to address the most important issues related to the application of evidence-based medicine and developing clinical practice guidelines, the College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University (GMU) – Ajman in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi conducted the ‘Symposium on Evidence-Based Clinical Practice’ at Dusit Thani Hotel, Dubai, on 5th May, 2018.

Renowned academicians and leading practitioners delivered talks on the various aspects of evidence-based practice. The symposium provided an opportunity to discuss developments in evidence-based practice and developing clinical practice guidelines, for improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare in the country. Doctors and academicians also shared their experiences and educated the participants about the steps needed to advance the work on evidence-based clinical practice.

Prof. Sherief Khalifa, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University said the symposium covered key features of evidence-based clinical practice. “The collaboration of Gulf Medical University with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD) signed in February 2018 was instrumental in planning this successful program,” he said, adding that improvements in evidence-based clinical practice would result in better patient outcomes.

The symposium was attended by healthcare professionals from across the country. The speakers were presented with mementos.

Thumbay Pharmacy, one of the fastest-growing retail pharmacy chains in the UAE operated by Thumbay Group, has tied-up with the College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University, for teaching and training the graduates of the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) course. Furthermore, graduates of the College of Pharmacy will be given priority for employment, across the numerous outlets of Thumbay Pharmacy across the UAE and in India.

As part of the tie-up, a new outlet of Thumbay Pharmacy was inaugurated at Thumbay Medicity, Al Jurf, Ajman on 13th May 2018. The pharmacy outlet was inaugurated by Dr. Sherief Khalifa – Dean, College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University (GMU), in the presence of members of Thumbay Group Board.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Dr. Sherief Khalifa said, “We are excited about the new pharmacy at Thumbay Medicity. Being part of the Gulf Medical University Academic Health System (GMUAHS), the Thumbay Pharmacy chain benefits from experienced pharmacy practitioners and up-to-date pharmacy professors. They also serve as prime training sites the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students of the College of Pharmacy, GMU, in their community pharmacy rotations. Our aspiration is to take advantage of the Academic Health System, to take community pharmacy in the UAE to a higher level and align with international best practices.” He also thanked Dr. Thumbay Moideen, the Founder President of Thumbay Group, for the decision to give priority to PharmD graduates of the College of Pharmacy, for employment in Thumbay Pharmacies.

Dr. Thumbay Moideen said that the newly opened outlet was the latest addition to the pharmacy chain, in accordance with Thumbay Group’s expansion plans. “As per our strategic plans, we plan to have 100 Thumbay Pharmacy outlets worldwide, by 2022,” he added.

Winners of the Facebook photo-contest, conducted as part of the grand anniversary celebrations of Thumbay Hospital Day Care, Rolla, Sharjah, were announced and their prizes awarded at a special function organized at the hospital on 14th May 2018.

The contest was held in three categories: highest votes, best smile and best pose. Zuhairah Mahnoor won the Samsung Smart TV for the most number of votes, while Maham Sohaib came second, winning the Toshiba Smart TV. Neha Pankaj Nihlani won the ‘best smile’ prize of a Samsung Smartphone. Rithika Kesarkar won the Lenovo Smart Tablet for the ‘best pose’. Muhammed Firoz, an employee of the hospital was recognized for his outstanding contributions, with a special cash prize.

Thumbay Hospital Day Care Rolla, Sharjah conducted an antenatal counselling session for expectant women, on 2nd June 2018. The session was conducted by Dr. Shalini Somnath – Specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology. It was followed by an interactive Q&A session.

Around 50 moms-to-be attended the event. A lucky draw conducted for the participants was won by Ms. Geetha who took home the prize – a Samsung Smartphone.

The event was followed by Iftar for attendees and their spouse. All attendees were given Ramadan gifts.

Gulf Medical University Ties Up with Egypt’s General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes for Collaborative Efforts in Training, Academic and Research

Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, the leading private medical university in the region has tied up with the Ministry of Health General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes (GOTHI), Egypt, the organization running specialized hospitals, institutes and centers of excellence all over Egypt totaling more than five thousand beds. It includes the Heart Institute, Eye Institute, Diabetes Institute, Hearing & Speech Institute, Al Gala Maternal & Children’s Hospital, Liver Institute and many hospitals in Cairo, Alexandria, Damanhour and Aswan.

A MoU signed in this regard between both the institutions agrees to explore and implement areas of joint cooperation in training, research and academic collaboration at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The agreement was signed at GMU on 7th June 2018 by Professor Dr. Hani Nasr, Chairman – GOTHI and Prof. Hossam Hamdy, Chancellor – GMU.

Commenting on the partnership, Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder, President Board of Trustees of GMU said, “We are very pleased to establish this relationship with GOTHI – the leading institute of healthcare in Egypt with a large number of international hospitals and institutes – in research, training and developing academia and to develop academic programs. This is an important partnership in terms of the future strategic directions of GMU.”

The collaboration agreement seeks to support the transformation of GOTHI Hospitals to academic health centers, and provide GOTHI’s clinicians and faculty members with training and academic programs in Health Professions Education (Diploma & Masters) of GMU. The agreement also aims to conduct collaborative joint research with the support of GMU’s Precision Medicine Research Institute, in addition to organizing joint conferences and workshops. It also agrees to provide training for GMU students in GOTHI hospitals. The students and interns of GMU will benefit from the training in the excellent clinical facilities.

Professor Dr. Hani Nasr said that the MoU would enable mutually beneficial exchanges between the two institutions. “This partnership would benefit both the institutions in our pursuit of greater ambitions. We hope this would open up more areas of cooperation and collaboration,” he said.

Speaking about the agreement, Prof. Hossam Hamdy said, “In line with the vision of GMU’s Board of Trustees, we are happy to be establishing strategic partnerships with several internationally reputed institutions, seeking to further increase the global footprint of Gulf Medical University. As the first and only private academic health system in the region, we are committed to strengthening the regional network of public health education, practice and research.”

Headed by Prof. Dr. Hani Nasr, the GOTHI delegation visiting GMU included other officials like Dr. Inas Mohamed, Dr. Nadia  Mohamed Badawey and Major General Mohamed Elbahgy.
