A new technology known as Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) has enabled a 38-year-old male patient with extensive varicose veins in right limbs leave the hospital on the same day of the procedure and start walking comfortably within 12 hours.

The patient, Indian national Mr. Ubayathul Rahman was presented to Thumbay Hospital Day Care – Rolla, Sharjah with pain, skin color change and dilated veins in right lower limb. He was also having pain and heaviness in the right lower limb due to his medical condition.

He was examined by Dr. Ashish Sam Enos, Specialist General Surgeon. Investigations with Doppler revealed a significant leakage from the venous valve, in the right thigh region.

In normal cases, such a case could be rectified only by a corrective procedure by the traditional open operative technique. In Thumbay Hospital Day Care – Rolla, Sharjah, the availability of the new minimally invasive Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA) ruled out open surgery.

The team led by Dr. Ashish Sam Enos performed the RFA procedure under anesthesia and sedation. The patient was discharged on the same day. The procedure involved using a catheter that’s heated up by radiofrequency energy to heat the vein and seal it off. Mr. Ubayathul Rahman was able to walk comfortably within 12 hours.

Speaking about the RFA procedure, Dr. Ashish Sam Enos said that the procedure involved very little pain and that it was absolutely patient friendly. “Earlier, the only proper treatment for serious varicose veins was “stripping”, wherein an incision was made on the patient’s thigh, and the complete vein removed. This use to be painful and required a few days of hospitalization,” said Dr. Ashish Sam Enos, adding, “RFA causes minimal discomfort after the procedure as well as fewer complications. It does not involve any cutting into the skin. Another major advantage is that patients benefit from less waiting times compared to surgeries.” He said that the success rate of the procedure was very high worldwide.

We are presently undergoing ISO 9001 and 27001 implementation expected to be completed this year. Our next target is CMM Level3 certification,” he added.

Commenting on the new application’s importance, Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay said, “The Healthcare Division is glad to partner with Thumbay Technologies to implement this advanced application compliant with EMRAM 7^th Stage standards. We are confident that Sehatak will be crucial to our efforts in providing the best of patient care across all Thumbay Hospitals, including the soon-to-launch 500-bed academic hospital at Thumbay Medicity – Ajman, which will be the biggest and most advanced private teaching hospital in the region.”

Dr. Thumbay Moideen said that the implementation of Sehatak across Thumbay Hospitals would help them stay ahead and significantly improve healthcare delivery. “It is vital for Thumbay Hospitals, as the largest network of private academic hospitals in the region, to keep with the changing times and constantly improve our service delivery. This is especially important in view of our expansion plans which envision the Thumbay academic hospital network to have a total of 1000 beds in the UAE, 1500 beds in India and 750 beds elsewhere in the Gulf and Africa by 2022.”

Gulf Medical University (GMU), one of the top 50 medical educational institutes in the region, announced the launch of an Academic Thumbay University Hospital, two new colleges and new programs as part of its planned educational strategy.

Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder and President of Thumbay Group has approved a budget of AED1 billion to expand and transform the Thumbay Medicity into a comprehensive educational and academic hub.

The new programs and colleges under Gulf Medical University were announced during a press conference hosted by the University Chancellor, Professor Hossam Hamdy, at GMU.

The latest development include the launch of two new collages at the University, Nursing College and College of Health Care Management and Health Economics, which brings the total number of colleges to six.

GMU will also introduce new higher education programs in nursing during the academic 2018-19.

As part of this expansion, two new programs: Master’s degree in Public Health and another in Environmental Health and toxicology, came as a result of recently forged partnership between GMU and University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (UA-MEZCOPH), USA.

The University had also signed several other memoranda of cooperation and understanding with a number of leading educational institutes, in an effort to enrich its students’ education.

Professor Hamdy also announced the launch of the University Hospital in Ajman in October. With an initial capacity of 350 beds, the new hospital’s capacity is expected to reach nearly 500 beds once it is fully operational.

The new hospital, one of three including the Dental Hospital and The Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Hospital are all located at the Thumbay Medicity in Al Jurf in Ajman.

The University is also implementing the latest technologies in teaching and training students across all majors, to ensure their work place readiness once they graduate.

One of the most prominent uses of technology in teaching is the Virtual Patient Learning (VPL), a simulation program that enables medical students to diagnose, treat and observe a patient’s progress. Based on Artificial Intelligence technology and developed by GMU and Swiss tech company Lifelike, secured top positions regionally and globally at the 2017 Reimagine Education Conference & Awards in the USA.

In terms of advancing healthcare in the UAE and globally, GMU had launched three facilities dedicated to medical research: Cancer Immunology and experimental oncology; Tumor genetic instability and immunogenicity; and biomarkers and Functional genomics.

In continuation of its efforts to provide high-quality specialized care to patients, Thumbay Hospital Day Care – Rolla, Sharjah launched a ‘Mother and Child Care Center’ at the hospital on 4^th August 2018. The center was officially launched by the chief guest Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group in the presence of members of the administrative team of the hospital.

The ‘Mother and Child Care Center’ ensures the best possible care for every mother and baby before, during and after the birth of the newborn. The center is manned by a team of eminent doctors and healthcare professionals including well-experienced Gynaecologists and Pediatrician, as well as a female Radiologist.

Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay also presented the ‘clinical excellence awards’ at the function, in recognition of outstanding clinical contributions. Dr. Ashish Sam Enos, Dr. Sangita Kulkarni, Dr. Sunil Kumar and the OT team received the awards. Certificates of appreciation were presented to all the doctors of the hospital as well as the internal and external teams, for their roles in supporting the hospital’s growth and success.

Located at Sharqan area, the Juma Masjid has a capacity of 200 worshippers and offers Friday sermons in English

A new mosque, Juma Masjid, built by Dr. Thumbay Moideen – Founder President of Thumbay Group and his family at Al Maqdisi Street in Sharqan area, Sharjah, has opened its doors to worshippers from today, 13^th August 2018.

Located opposite to Anjad Police Station, the mosque serves all five daily prayer times, Friday and Ramadan prayers, and is conveniently accessible from Street 59. It has the capacity to accommodate 200 worshippers, and has separate entrances and prayer halls for men and women. An important highlight of the masjid is that its Friday sermon (khuthba) is delivered in English.

This is the second masjid built by Dr. Thumbay Moideen and family in the UAE. The first one – Thumbay Moideen Masjid – located at Thumbay Medicity in Al Jurf, Ajman has the capacity to accommodate up to 400 worshippers at a time, has separate entrances for men and women and has English khuthba.
